One thing that has become more important in recent years, including in the Animal Health industry and the Veterinary profession, is the candidate experience. Employers who provide an exceptional experience for the candidates in their hiring process are more successful hiring those candidates and also branding themselves as an organization.

A couple of years ago, LinkedIn conducted a survey of job seekers to find out what they want most during the hiring process. According to the results of that survey, 83% of professionals said that a negative interview experience can change their mind about a role. That’s more than eight out of 10 candidates!

There are some critical things that employers must do during the hiring process to provide a great candidates experience. First, provide feedback after telephone interviews and face-to-face interviews. Second, let the candidates know where they stand in the process. Third, clearly outline what the next steps in the process will be. And fourth, communicate the approximate timeline for when a decision will be made.

A great experience is important not just for the candidates you want to hire, but also for the candidates you don’t hire, as well. These candidates could know other professionals in the Animal Health industry or Veterinary profession, and the things they say about your organization could have an impact on what those professionals think about you. In some cases the candidate could also be a customer for your brand and if you don’t treat them well, they may decide not to buy from you again.

Providing a great candidate experience is an important part of both employer branding and effective hiring in today’s marketplace. So if you’re an employer, do not ignore the experience that you provide. Instead, build and cultivate the best one you possibly can.
