It’s true that there is more than one way to grow your career. In fact, there are two main ways that Animal Health and Veterinary professionals grow their careers.
First, you can grow your career with your current employer. You can move up through the ranks of the organization by earning promotions and raises and acquiring new responsibilities.
Second, you can grow your career by seeking out and finding an employment opportunity with another organization. I’m not talking about a lateral move, although some people do make those in pursuit of career growth. I’m talking about an opportunity that is clearly better than the one you have right now.
Let me ask you a question: do you plan to retire with your current employer?
I’d be willing to bet that you haven’t thought much about retirement, much less about retiring with your current employer. But if you don’t plan to retire with your current employer, it means that you’ll one day take a job with another organization.
And if that’s the case, you should plan for that day. Do what is necessary to position yourself for career growth, especially if that growth will be with another company.
Part of your plan might include building a relationship with a search consultant who works in the Animal Health industry and Veterinary profession. Recruiters have experience helping professionals find better employment opportunities so they can grow their careers!
