Vice President – Veterinary Practice Relationships – Remote – # 9936
Vice President, Veterinary Practice Relationships – # 9936
Confidential Search | Veterinary Industry | Remote – United States
The VET Recruiter® has been retained by a highly successful organization serving the veterinary profession to identify an accomplished Vice President of Veterinary Practice Relationships.
This is a unique opportunity for a well-connected veterinary industry professional to build and lead a national relationship-development function focused on owners of successful, independent veterinary practices.
Our client is seeking someone who has spent their career developing trusted relationships within the veterinary profession—ideally through a senior sales, strategic accounts, key accounts, business development, pharmaceutical, diagnostics, distribution, or veterinary industry role.
This is not a traditional transactional sales position.
The successful candidate will be a highly credible, consultative relationship builder who understands veterinary practice owners, knows how to develop trust over time, and has an established network within the profession.
The Opportunity
In this newly created position, you will develop relationships with owners of larger independent veterinary practices throughout the United States.
Some practice owners may be considering a transition today. Others may be several years away. Your responsibility is to build authentic relationships, understand where owners are in their professional and ownership journey, and connect them with the appropriate resources when the timing is right.
You will also have the opportunity to build this business-development function from the ground up, developing repeatable strategies for identifying and engaging veterinary practice owners beyond your existing network.
This could include industry relationships, veterinary purchasing groups, referral networks, educational events, conferences, regional gatherings, practice-owner dinners, and other creative relationship-building initiatives.
What You Will Do
You will:
- Leverage your existing veterinary industry network to identify and develop relationships with owners of larger independent veterinary practices.
- Build new relationships with veterinary practice owners nationally.
- Develop scalable and repeatable strategies for reaching practice owners beyond your existing network.
- Cultivate referral relationships with veterinary industry professionals who regularly interact with practice owners.
- Work closely with an experienced internal team to transition qualified opportunities at the appropriate time while remaining involved in the relationship.
- Attend select veterinary industry conferences, meetings, dinners, and networking events.
- Develop creative approaches for bringing groups of veterinary practice owners together and building long-term relationships.
- Maintain accurate relationship and pipeline information within the organization’s CRM.
- Work collaboratively with internal marketing and professional teams to nurture relationships that may develop over months or years.
Who We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate is currently working in—or has a significant track record within—the Animal Health or veterinary industry and has meaningful experience developing relationships with owners of larger independent veterinary practices.
Particularly relevant backgrounds may include:
- Animal Health pharmaceutical companies
- Veterinary diagnostics or laboratory companies
- Veterinary distribution
- Veterinary technology or services companies
- Strategic or national accounts
- Key accounts
- Veterinary purchasing groups
- Senior veterinary industry business development
Experience interacting with larger independent, multi-doctor veterinary practices is particularly important.
We are interested in candidates who have developed relationships with practice owners through organizations such as veterinary pharmaceutical, diagnostic, laboratory, distribution, purchasing-group, or other veterinary industry companies.
The Person
Relationships are at the heart of this position.
The successful candidate will be someone who walks into a veterinary industry event and already knows many of the people in the room—and naturally develops relationships with the people they don’t know.
You are likely:
- An exceptional listener.
- Highly personable and approachable.
- A natural networker.
- Consultative rather than overly sales oriented.
- Comfortable interacting with sophisticated veterinary practice owners and senior industry professionals.
- Persistent without being aggressive.
- Entrepreneurial and comfortable creating something that hasn’t existed before.
- Someone who generates ideas and follows through on them.
- Comfortable working independently in a highly autonomous environment.
- Interested in building something for the long term.
This organization places tremendous value on trust, professionalism, relationships, and doing what is right for veterinary practice owners. A highly transactional or aggressive sales approach will not be a fit.
Location & Travel
This is a 100% remote position and may be based anywhere in the United States.
Travel is expected primarily for major veterinary conferences, industry meetings, selected regional events, and relationship-building activities. This is not a traditional Monday-through-Thursday field sales position.
Compensation
The anticipated base salary is $225,000–$250,000, depending upon experience and qualifications.
In addition to base salary, the position offers a meaningful commission opportunity tied to successfully completed transactions originating from relationships developed by this individual.
As the pipeline matures, the commission structure provides substantial additional earning potential.
Benefits include medical insurance with an employer contribution, dental insurance, and a 401(k).
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is a rare opportunity to take the veterinary industry relationships you have spent years building and use them in an entirely different way.
Rather than selling a product or managing a traditional account portfolio, you will help veterinary practice owners think through some of the most important decisions of their professional lives.
You will also have the opportunity to create a national relationship-development strategy from the ground up while joining an established, successful organization with a highly experienced team and a collaborative, professional culture.
This is a confidential search being conducted by The VET Recruiter®.
Qualified candidates may submit a résumé for confidential consideration. Additional information about the organization and opportunity will be shared with candidates whose backgrounds align with the requirements of the position.
