Veterinarian Transition Specialist (Business Development)

Veterinarian Transition Specialist (Business Development) Our client owns and operates veterinary practices and to aid in the growth is adding a Veterinarian Transition Specialist to the Business Development team. In this role the incumbent will work with veterinarians who are selling or partnering their practice to ensure the team of associate veterinarians are signed on to continue working for the hospital. The VTS will ensure the doctor team stays consistent for patients and clients and that the sale is able to close. The position is part of the Transition Team working in cooperation with Accounting, Legal, Transition and Operations teams to guarantee that every new hospital acquisition has a smooth transition.

The incumbent will partner with the legal team to gather information from sellers and pre-sale documents to development employment agreements for each Associate Veterinarian. The incumbent will travel to meet with the Associate Veterinarians at their hospital right before they join to help the doctors feel comfortable with the organization’s mission and model, so they sign on and feel good about joining the organization.

The incumbent will learn what the Associate Veterinarian’s short term goals are and what the company can do to support them to help build a plan for their success post-transition. The incumbent will assess and interpret potential concerns with the hospital as issues of note and/or deal breakers. Areas may include culture, HR, leadership, revenue or cost structure, performance and/or local market challenges. The incumbent will flag any concerns with Business Development, Deal Managers and Operations in an appropriate manner. The incumbent will work with the Transition Support Manager on pre-close fact-finding and any outstanding veterinarian questions post-close.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree. A veterinarian (DVM or equivalent) is highly preferred. The incumbent will be able to travel 75-80% overnight at times with short notice and frequent changes. Other qualifications include experience and understanding of business, operations and financials including ability to understand cost impacts at hospital level, outgoing, approachable personality and ability to quickly build rapport and trust with people you meet, ability to influence and quickly get to the root of someone’s concerns/wants. The successful candidate will have a high degree of emotional intelligence and empathy.

This is a field-based position that requires the successful candidate to be based near any major airport due to the frequent travel.
