A growing, pet food manufacturer is seeking a Senior Food Scientist to support the expansion of its pet food business, with a focus on human-grade, shelf-stable products. This is a newly created, high-impact role with strong visibility and future leadership potential offering significant career upside.

The position will report to the Senior Director of R&D and work closely with the marketing team, and other scientists.  The site manufactures its own brands and does contract manufacturing.  Company’s current primary focus is canine nutrition.  The position will be key in helping with formulation in a collaborative, fast paced environment.  Products are sold to retail channel including pet specialty.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead formulation and product development for shelf-stable pet food products (primarily dog, with future expansion into cat)
• Partner with customers, marketing, and cross-functional teams to bring new products from concept to commercialization
• Conduct bench-top formulation, scale-up, and commercialization activities
• Provide technical guidance to lab technicians and junior staff
• Collaborate closely with a centralized R&D team and manufacturing partners
• Support customer-facing innovation efforts and occasional on-site visits

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years (open to more senior) in food or pet food formulation
• Experience with human-grade or consumer-focused products strongly preferred
• Hands-on experience in bench development and scaling formulations
• Strong collaboration and communication skills in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment

Salary:  $120,000-130,000 plus bonus
