Animal Health / Equine Industry
Massachusetts – On-Site
Base Salary: $130,000–$143,000 + Bonus
Relocation Assistance Available
The VET Recruiter is partnering with an established animal health company to identify a Senior Equine Brand Manager to lead brand strategy and growth initiatives for a significant portfolio of equine products. This is an opportunity for an accomplished brand marketer to have a highly visible impact within an organization where marketing plays an important role in business strategy, product innovation, and commercialization.
This position is based on-site in Massachusetts. Candidates who do not currently live in the area must be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is available.
The Opportunity
The Senior Equine Brand Manager will take ownership of the strategic direction and growth of a substantial equine product portfolio. This individual will combine consumer and market insights, commercial strategy, brand management, and cross-functional leadership to identify opportunities and translate them into actionable growth initiatives.
This is not simply a marketing communications position. The successful candidate must be able to think strategically about brands, consumers, markets, channels, competition, innovation, and portfolio investment.
The individual will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional partners throughout the organization, including Sales, Product Development, Regulatory, Operations, Finance, Digital Marketing, and eCommerce.
The position is initially an individual contributor role. An Associate Brand Manager is expected to transition to this individual’s leadership once the new Senior Equine Brand Manager is established in the position.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Equine Brand Manager will:
- Develop and lead long-term brand and portfolio strategies for a significant equine product portfolio.
- Serve as the voice of the consumer and market within the organization.
- Identify consumer needs, market trends, competitive developments, and opportunities for growth.
- Translate consumer and market insights into brand strategies, innovation opportunities, and commercialization plans.
- Lead annual and longer-term brand planning.
- Evaluate portfolio performance and recommend investment priorities.
- Partner cross-functionally to bring new products, innovations, and brand initiatives to market.
- Work closely with Sales and channel partners to ensure brand strategies translate effectively into the marketplace.
- Manage multiple priorities and initiatives simultaneously in a fast-moving environment.
- Support industry events, trade shows, sponsorship activities and occasional photo shoots or other brand initiatives.
- Help develop and eventually lead an Associate Brand Manager.
- Build strong relationships across the organization and influence effectively without relying solely on formal authority.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of brand strategy, commercial thinking, and consumer understanding.
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Approximately 7+ years of brand management, category management or closely related marketing experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing brand strategy.
- Experience within animal health, equine, consumer packaged goods (CPG), food, grocery, or another consumer-oriented product industry.
- Equine industry experience is highly desirable but is not an absolute requirement for an exceptional brand marketer with transferable experience.
- Strong understanding of consumers, products, markets, and commercial decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to use market and consumer insights to identify growth opportunities.
- Experience working cross-functionally and influencing colleagues throughout an organization.
- Strong strategic, analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Previous people-management or team leadership experience is preferred.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to move quickly, prioritize effectively and adapt as business needs change.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are curious about the customer, commercially minded, resourceful, and comfortable challenging conventional thinking while being respectful, while building strong collaborative relationships.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This position offers something that can be difficult to find in a larger corporate environment: the ability to make a visible impact.
Rather than managing one small component of a much larger organization, this individual will have the opportunity to influence brand strategy, portfolio direction, innovation, and commercialization.
The company has an established presence within animal health and a collaborative culture where employees have access to senior leadership and are encouraged to contribute ideas. The environment is entrepreneurial and relationship-oriented, with an emphasis on collaboration, accountability, respect, and enthusiasm.
The successful candidate will have considerable exposure across the organization and an opportunity to become an important contributor to the future growth of the equine business.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated base salary range is $130,000–$143,000, depending upon experience and qualifications. The company may have some flexibility for an exceptional candidate with particularly relevant experience.
The position also participates in company cashflow and sales bonus programs.
Benefits include:
- Medical, dental and vision coverage
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off
- Company-paid short- and long-term disability coverage
- Company-paid life insurance
- Additional voluntary life insurance
- Educational assistance
- Pet insurance
- Fitness and weight-loss reimbursement programs
- Bonus programs
Relocation assistance is available for the successful candidate.
Location & Travel
This is an on-site position in Massachusetts and is not a remote role.
Candidates relocating to the area will find a variety of living options throughout the greater Springfield region and nearby communities, including more suburban and rural settings. Northern Connecticut may also provide options depending upon commute preferences.
Travel is limited and planned in advance, generally consisting of approximately 3–4 industry-related trips per year, with occasional travel for sponsored events, trade shows or brand activities.
First-Year Priorities
During the first several months, the Senior Equine Brand Manager will focus on learning the business, portfolio, consumers, competitors, and distribution channels while building strong relationships across the organization.
By approximately six months, this individual should be taking the lead on brand planning, commercialization initiatives, and portfolio recommendations.
Within the first year, the successful candidate is expected to independently lead the strategic direction of the equine portfolio, drive growth and innovation initiatives and become a trusted business partner within the organization.
