We are seeking an Emergency Veterinarian in Traverse City, MI. The overnight doctor begins their shift at 3pm. They round with the morning veterinarian on the patients that are in the hospital. They are responsible for additional emergencies that present to the hospital from 3pm to 7am the following morning. They also oversee the care of the inpatients should technicians note changes in patients’ condition that needs to be addressed. The overnight doctor is responsible for performing surgeries as needed during their shift. During a busy night the veterinarian may not have any downtime. During slower nights there may not be any emergencies presented to the hospital after midnight and the veterinarian is free to sleep or go home as long as they can reach the clinic within 20 minutes should an emergency patient present. The overnight veterinarian is scheduled 3 nights per week. The nights can be consecutive or split up depending on the preference of the veterinarian. Holiday coverage rotates among the doctors.
The staff is experienced and communicates well. The days are busy but run smoothly. The doctors regularly run cases by each other for second opinions and cases are typically shared by multiple doctors.
The practice sees a variety of interesting emergency and critical care patients which is engaging. The support staff is knowledgeable and supportive. Geographically, Traverse City is one of the most beautiful growing small towns in America and offers lots of recreation and activities.
Qualifications
Veterinary licensure in Michigan, CS license, APHIS accreditation.
Prior emergency experience of >1year or a rotating small animal internship.
