Life in Santa Cruz

Known affectionately as “Surf City,” Santa Cruz is a place where the laid-back coastal lifestyle meets an adventurous spirit. Residents are drawn to its mild climate, stunning natural scenery, and miles of pristine coastline. The town has a fun dual personality, both playful and effortlessly cool. On one side, you’ll find family-friendly thrills at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, where arcade games, corn dogs, a historic carousel, and the classic wooden roller coaster keep traditions alive. On the other hand, downtown Santa Cruz buzzes with creativity—shoppers browse vintage finds and boho-chic boutiques. At the same time, local restaurants serve fresh, organic meals inspired by the area’s farm-to-table roots. Beyond the shoreline, the Santa Cruz Mountains invite hikers with sweeping views of the Pacific, while the towering, ancient redwoods offer a sense of timeless wonder. Add a thriving surf culture, a strong community of artists and musicians, and UC Santa Cruz, and it’s easy to see why people who come here often find it hard to leave.
