Life in McKean County
McKean County is located in northwestern Pennsylvania and is heavily covered by the Allegheny National Forest. This expansive forest offers a wealth of outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, fishing, and birdwatching. The Kinzua Dam and the Allegheny Reservoir are popular spots within the forest, providing stunning scenery and opportunities for water-based activities. For those who enjoy museums, this region is also home to the Zippo/Case Museum. Zippo lighters and Case knives, both iconic American brands, are manufactured in Bradford. The museum showcases the history and craftsmanship behind these products, making it an interesting visit for those interested in American manufacturing and design. And for those who love history and nature, don’t miss out on visiting the Kinzua Sky Walk – a captivating attraction that was built on the historic Kinzua Viaduct. The viaduct was once the longest and tallest railroad structure in the world until a tornado partially destroyed it in 2003. The remaining support towers have been transformed into a skywalk with a partial glass-bottom observation deck, providing breathtaking views of the Kinzua Gorge. It’s a unique way to experience both history and nature.
