It’s known as the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution, with many historic mills, museums, and landmarks that keep its legacy alive. The Lowell National Historical Park offers walking tours and boat rides through the canals, and it’s a unique way to explore the city’s industrial past. Lowell is a melting pot with thriving communities from many cultural backgrounds, especially Southeast Asian, African, and Hispanic communities. This diversity is great for bringing fun cultural festivals, community events, and authentic international cuisine to the locals. Additionally, the city has a thriving art scene with galleries, studios, and performance spaces. The Lowell Folk Festival, one of the longest-running free folk festivals in the country, brings music and dance from around the world! There’s also an active live music scene in local venues so whenever you’re in the mood for music, you have plenty of options! And, compared to Boston, Lowell is more affordable for housing. You’ll still have the big-city amenities but without the big-city prices. This area, like Boston, has many parks, trails, and more to explore.
