Darrell Pursell – COO

A Foundation in Business Leadership & Executive Search

Before entering the executive search profession, Darrell Pursell built a successful career in public accounting, corporate finance, and business leadership. He began his career with Deloitte & Touche and Ernst & Young, where he advised senior leadership at publicly traded companies, Fortune 500 corporations, middle-market businesses, and entrepreneurial ventures.

Working with organizations across industries and at varying stages of growth gave Darrell valuable insight into financial management, business operations, organizational strategy, and the challenges leaders face as their companies grow, evolve, and navigate change. His work placed him alongside senior executives and provided a firsthand understanding of how strong leadership, sound financial management, and effective decision-making contribute to organizational success.

Darrell later transitioned from public accounting into corporate leadership, serving as Corporate Controller and acting Chief Financial Officer for a telecommunications company. In these roles, he was responsible for key financial and operational functions and remained with the organization through its eventual sale to Cox Communications.

Following his career in public accounting and corporate finance, Darrell brought his business and financial expertise to executive search and recruiting. His background provides a distinctive perspective on talent acquisition: he understands organizations not only from a recruiting standpoint, but also through the lens of an executive who has advised business leaders, managed financial operations, and served as part of a corporate leadership team.

Darrell is both a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC). His CPA credential reflects the strong accounting and financial foundation of his career, while his CPC designation demonstrates his professional expertise and commitment to standards and ethics within executive search and recruiting.

Today, Darrell’s combined background in public accounting, corporate finance, executive leadership, and executive search provides a strong foundation for his role as Chief Operating Officer of The VET Recruiter®. His ability to view talent decisions from both a business and executive search and recruiting perspective helps guide the firm’s operations and strategy while supporting its mission of connecting exceptional talent with organizations throughout the Animal Health industry and Veterinary profession.
