Our client is a growing company in the animal health pharmaceutical space. The company is looking for a dynamic Sales Director with strong Portfolio Management experience. This strategic role combines commercial leadership with portfolio optimization to drive growth in veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, distributors, and livestock operations across multiple therapeutic categories. The position is remote and requires approximately 50% travel including trade shows, veterinary conferences, and customer meetings
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute sales strategies to maximize market penetration of products across companion animal segment
- Build and maintain strong relationships with veterinarians, veterinary clinic chains, distributors, integrators, and livestock producers
- Establish KPIs and performance metrics specific to animal health sales cycles and seasonal demand patterns
- Develop pricing strategies that balance competitive positioning with margin protection in a price-sensitive market
- Collaborate with regulatory affairs, quality assurance, and supply chain to ensure product availability and compliance
Portfolio Management & Optimization
- Manage product portfolio across therapeutic categories (antibiotics, anti-parasitics, anti-inflammatories, etc.)
- Analyze portfolio performance by species (companion animals, equine, bovine, swine, poultry, aquaculture), geography, and distribution channel
- Identify high-potential opportunities based on patent expirations, market needs, and competitive landscape
- Prioritize product development investments and launches based on ROI, market size, and strategic fit
- Monitor competitor launches and adjust portfolio strategy accordingly
- Track and analyze market share trends, pricing dynamics, and therapeutic class performance
Commercial Analytics & Forecasting
- Develop sales forecasts considering seasonal patterns and market dynamics
- Collaborate with sales operations team to create business intelligence dashboards tracking portfolio health, sales velocity, and market trends
- Model impact of pricing changes, promotional activities, and competitive actions
- Present portfolio performance and strategic recommendations to executive leadership
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Business, Life Sciences, or related field
- 8+ years of progressive sales experience in animal health, veterinary pharmaceuticals, or related industries
- 3+ years of experience in portfolio management, product management, or strategic planning within animal health or pharmaceuticals
- Deep understanding of veterinary pharmaceutical market dynamics
- Proven track record of exceeding sales targets in B2B pharmaceutical or animal health sales
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medicine, animal diseases, and therapeutic categories
- Experience with both companion animal and livestock/production animal markets preferred
- Understanding of FDA/CVM regulatory requirements for animal drugs
- Proficiency with CRM systems, sales analytics tools, and portfolio management software
- Excellent presentation skills for veterinary and scientific audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of compounding pharmacy regulations and veterinary feed directive (VFD)
- Experience launching veterinary pharmaceuticals
- Established relationships within veterinary distribution networks
