Life in Fairbanks

Live a life of outdoor adventure in one of the most beautiful places in the world! Surrounded by mountains, rivers, and wilderness, Fairbanks is an outdoor lover’s dream. The nearby Chena River, Denali National Park, and Arctic Circle provide endless exploration opportunities. Additionally, Fairbanks is one of the best places in the world to see the aurora borealis, especially from late August to April. The dark, clear skies and high latitude make for breathtaking displays. And from late May to July, Fairbanks experiences almost 24 hours of daylight due to its far northern location. This means extra-long summer adventures—hiking, fishing, and even festivals at all hours! Despite the harsh winters, Fairbanks residents are known for their warm, welcoming spirit. There’s a strong sense of community, with locals helping each other out, especially when temperatures drop. Chena Hot Springs is a short drive away, offering a geothermal oasis where you can soak in warm mineral waters while surrounded by snow and stars. And, Fairbanks is home to moose, foxes, eagles, and even reindeer! Watching Bald Eagles soar overhead is something you’re guaranteed to see multiple times a day! Despite its smaller size, Fairbanks has a lively arts and music scene, with unique and fun events like World Ice Art Championships (AKA, massive ice sculptures, Yukon Quest Dog Sled Race, Gold Days Festival, Midnight Sun Festival (AKA, a giant Summer Solstice party!) and more! Fairbanks is perfect for dog sledding, snow machining, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and hiking. If you love the outdoors, there’s something to do in every season. It offers a quieter, less hectic lifestyle with a focus on self-sufficiency and connection to nature. If peaceful surroundings, natural beauty, and a cold winter are things you love, then this place will be heaven on earth for you.
