The practice is proud of the culture and team it has built and is highly regarded in the area. Many referring veterinarians use our client’s services for overnight care and more serious illnesses and injuries. Many of the same clients have been coming to the practice for decades and feedback from clients is highly positive.
We are currently seeking an Emergency Veterinarian to join the team. The ideal candidate for this job would be positive and upbeat and is someone who will work well under stress or pressure when ER is busy. We need someone who is easy going and a team player who can work with the veterinary nursing staff to provide the best care.
Emergency Veterinarian (s) are responsible for working up all emergencies on presentation during their shift, treating as outpatient or admitting to hospital for continued care and caring for in-patients simultaneously.
During the daytime hours, hospitalized cases are split up among all doctors (ER and GP) so case load is typically lighter. During the day, traditionally the ER doctor will take the more critical cases to manage. On the overnight shift, the ER doctor is responsible for managing all hospitalized cases. In both daytime and nighttime shifts, the ER doctor is also responsible for any incoming emergencies.
The typical day in the life of an ER clinician would be:

- SOAP all assigned hospitalized cases• See emergencies as presented working with designated emergency staff
- Communicate treatment plan with clients
- Work closely with nursing staff to optimize patient care and make any changes to treatment plan as needed
- Perform any procedures for patients as needed (including surgery)
- Update clients as needed• Ensure all medical records are complete
- Round next shift of doctors
Qualifications:
DVM or VMD, NJ State License required, clean background check, internship trained or experienced strongly preferred. Must be medically confident on an overnight shift alone with two veterinary nurses (likely to be more as we expand). Surgical confidence is also a big plus. Our ER Medical Director is often available to come in to help with surgery if needed but we would prefer to have a candidate that can be independent in that regard.
