Veterinary Regional Medical Director – Knoxville, TN – #7351

We are seeking an outgoing servant-leader veterinarian to join us as a Veterinary Regional Medical Director (RMD) to motivate and support a regional network of veterinary hospitals. The RMD will work at the hospital level and within the region, with hospital management teams to achieve ongoing growth, profitability, and clinical and quality medical development while focusing on customer satisfaction and excellent employee recruitment, morale, and retention.

This role will report to the Chief Medical Officer and will support our thriving and expanding hospital group by empowering each hospital to foster its own culture and identity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership, support, and oversight of the daily medical operations at the hospital and regional level
  • Recruitment – interview (virtual, phone, and/or in-person) potential veterinary candidates, presence at Universities, CE events, etc.
  • Retention of current veterinary staff – focus on individual development interests of current veterinarians, seek mentorship opportunities, provide well-being conversations and interventions/support, crucial conversations, and coaching as needed to create a bond and provide value to the veterinary team
  • Oversight and management of hospital-level financials and KPIs such as EBITDA, COGs, payroll percentages, etc. through collaboration with regional managers
  • Facilities management (ex: evaluating medical equipment needs and ROI) throughout regional hospital group
  • Support of 10-15 hospitals with the possibility of addition of hospitals within the region through acquisitions
  • 50-75% Travel – Weekly travel within the region visiting hospitals to provide high-touch and support (sometimes requiring over-night stays) along with CE events, conferences, and occasional business trips
  • Be an advocate and support the development of hospital-level and organization-wide positive culture and brand-building consistent with organizational values

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • DVM or equivalent
  • Although this is a non-clinical role, strong surgical, medical, and dental experience and proficiency are important for mentorship and coaching
  • At least three years of multi-site leadership
  • Looking for someone with exceptional motivation, self-starter, situational leadership-style communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish a rapport and trust with our hospital teams
  • Understanding of financial KPIs of a veterinary business including EBITDA, COGs, payroll percentages, etc.
