Emergency Veterinarian – Michigan

Emergency Veterinarian Michigan.   We have a position open for both a full time emergency veterinarian and a part time emergency veterinarian in the Traverse City area.

This hospital is a privately owned emergency referral hospital that opened after seeing the need for a round the clock critical care hospital in the rapidly growing community. Many local referring clinics refer clients and the practice sees emergency and critical care cases from across Northern Michigan. The practice has expanded considerably in recent years. The practice employees five full time veterinarians and twenty support staff members including seven licensed LVTs. The practice recently upgraded DR technology, resulting in 50% less radiation for pets and staff than traditional DR. The full in house lab allows rapid results to aid in the diagnosis and treatment plans.

Traverse City is in a beautiful small town located on part of Lake Michigan. It is considered a vacation town by much of the state and many locals stay and never leave. It is home to Northern Michigan College, dozens of beaches, lakes, rivers, hiking trails and both downhill and Nordic skiing. The town is a huge foodie town and has dozens of microbreweries, many of which can be reached by water.

The full time emergency veterinarian is scheduled for 3 overnight shifts per week. The position is responsible for monitoring hospitalized inpatients and treating incoming emergencies, including emergency surgeries and procedures.

The part time emergency veterinarian is scheduled two to three shifts per week and would include every other weekend. Experience with ultrasound is preferred for the doctor in this position.

Benefits of working here include a flexible schedule, colleagues that help each other both with cases and with shift swaps, an outstandingly knowledgeable and technically skilled support staff makes coming to work here fun. The practice offers a competitive salary, generous CE allowance and PTO, paid vacation time and sick days. The cost of VIN membership, state licensing and DEA license dues are included. Health insurance including medical, dental and vision are also available.

We seek someone who is knowledgeable and has a passion for emergency and critical care medicine and who has the ability to clearly communicate and is compassionate with clients. The veterinarian needs to delegate tasks to support staff. At least one year of emergency or internship experience is preferred. We will also consider motivated new graduates.
