Director of Products and Services/Membership and Field Services-The Director directs the planning, coordination and supervision of the division and ensures that operations and activities are in line with the objectives set by the leadership team. The Director maintains and develops policies and programs for programs including recruitment, communications, dues, student association support and student chapter relations, career center and professional development. The Director plans divisional activities including the activities of assistant directors and other staff in student relations; membership recruitment and retention, committees; career counseling and development, management and production of the membership directory and resources; mailing list rental sales and fulfillment; and member communications. The director develops the division budgets and maintains and controls expenses in accordance with budget plans. The director consults and communicates with member and nonmember veterinarians, association officers and executives, government officials and university administrators and faculty members to advance membership recruitment and retention. The director participates in the formation and execution of the organization’s policies, objectives and programs as they relate to the strategic plan, with emphasis on membership and member services. The director provides staff support to governance entities, prepares agendas, participates in meetings, provides guidance on association policy and procedures and implements entity actions. The director communicates with members and responds to concerns, questions and complaints about membership matters and other areas of responsibility. The director develops and manages expanded and enhanced member benefits and services. The director manages and mentors divisional staff to build the team concept of operation and is responsible for the performance management of direct reports, including the establishment of goals and priorities; providing ongoing performance feedback; conducting annual performance appraisals; hiring and applying appropriate disciplinary actions when applicable within the policy and procedures of the organization.
Qualifications include a minimum of 7 years of management experience, preferable in a national professional association, a demonstrated ability to strategically plan and coordinate all phases of the membership function within an association, must be a strong leader and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), must be able to interact and effectively communicate both with members of the scientific and non-scientific community, be able to organize, plan and manage group meetings; must be able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines, functioning well autonomously and as a team member, must be creative with strong proactive project management skills, strong computer skills are required including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and various internet web browsers, must be able to travel up to 20% of the time, must be able to work outside of normal business hours as required. Bachelors Degree is required. A veterinary degree is preferred.
