We are looking for an Assistant Director of Education and Research. This is a remote position with 30-40% travel.
The incumbent is a veterinarian who is passionate about veterinary medicine and education. The position requires the incumbent to perform functions to assist the Division Director in proposing, developing, and implementing policies and programs regarding the accreditation of schools and colleges offering a professional degree in veterinary medicine.
The Assistant Director works closely and collaboratively with other professional and administrative staff within, or supporting, the Division Director to provide professional, timely, and results-oriented support to the accreditation requirements. This includes providing staff support for accreditation site visits, developing and implementing educational lessons and training at site visits, and facilitating and supporting the activities of other departments as assigned.
The Assistant Director will work as a member of a team with other staff and volunteers in support of Councils, Committees, and Task Forces in the execution of their duties and responsibility for executing policies, objectives, and programs.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provides staff support and consultation involved with matters relating to veterinary education and accreditation.
- Provides staff support for accreditation site visits for veterinary medical schools/colleges.
- Develops and implements, in consultation with the Division Director, the initial training for accreditation site visitors and annual site visitor retraining.
- Maintains and implements, in consultation with the Division Director, the quality assurance programs for site visits and processes.
- Consult and communicate with staff, college educators, and administrators on issues related to the education of veterinarians and the evaluation of veterinary schools/colleges.
- Maintains knowledge of accepted accreditation practices, including external recognition criteria, and recommends appropriate procedural and policy changes.
- Assists the Division Director with duties as needed.

- Additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of ten years of related work experience, including experience as a veterinary clinician.
- Demonstrated knowledge of/and experience in veterinary education is required, and familiarity with the accreditation processes is desirable.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience.
- Experience working with veterinary college administrators is highly preferred.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal).
- Skilled in diplomatic facilitation of consensus between multiple perspectives.
- Must be able to interact and effectively communicate both with members of the scientific and non-scientific community.
- Strong involvement with organized veterinary medicine is highly desirable.
- Must be able to travel as required (30-40%).
- Must be able to work outside of normal business hours as required.
- DVM/VMD or equivalent degree required.
- Relevant advanced education and/or board certification preferred.
