Canine Veterinarian

Canine Veterinarian.  The incumbent will handle complete canine care to include Comprehensive Physical Exams (Ophthalmic, Neurological and Orthopedic), Collection/Interpretation of laboratory samples, Radiographic Interpretation, Nutritional guidance, Behavioral enrichment and Kennel Health Management. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable on disease and vector control issues specifically in kennels, as well as areas dogs will be trained and used. The incumbent will have knowledge of the state and federal requirements of animal welfare and care and providing guidance to the Canine program of deficiencies or issues. The veterinarian will serve as a Subject Matter Expert in the areas of Sanitation, Nutrition, Conditioning and Disease Control by providing information and guidance to the Canine program. The veterinarian will serve as an instructor in a Canine Handler Class, teaching basic veterinary care to dog handlers and will teach all Canine staff, first aid, heat injury prevention and first aid and any other subject deemed necessary. The incumbent will provide direct and indirect supervision and guidance to all onsite veterinary technicians and kennel management staff and will inspect onsite kennel, training areas and transportation trailers to ensure the health and welfare of the animals.

Qualifications: Applicant must hold a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree,i.e; Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) received from a university/college accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education. Applicant must have a current and valid North Carolina Medical license. Applicant must be in good standing with NCVMB with no current actions being reviewed. If another state license is held, the applicant will be considered for hiring but with the condition of obtaining the NC license. Applicant must be accredited to issue health certificates for dog movements within the US and overseas. Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, with some exceptions. Applicants should hold or have no restrictions from obtaining a DEA number/license. IACUC experience preferred. PennHipp certified or ability to obtain certification. Cornerstone experience. Military experience is highly desirable.
