5 Reasons to Use a Top Recruiter as the Talent Agent for Your Career

People spend long years and invest a tremendous amount of time, energy, and effort into their career.  When they’ve invested that much, it only makes sense that they want to “protect” their career and take as much control of it as they can.

That is why it makes sense to partner with an experienced and knowledgeable niched recruiter in your field.

In people’s rush to “protect” their career, they sometimes make mistakes, namely because while they may be an expert in their chosen field, they’re not an expert in the art of finding premium employment opportunities.  And if they do manage to find one, they still have to navigate the interviewing and hiring process.

You might be thinking, “I’m a veteran in this industry.  I know just about everybody.  I don’t need help finding a new job, if I want one.”

Regardless of your experience and/or talent level, attempting to find a new job and grow your career by yourself invites a certain level of risk into the equation.  However, partnering with an executive recruiter during your job search can help to eliminate that risk.

Below are five reasons to use a recruiter as the talent agent for your career:

#1—Companies expect top talent to use a recruiter.

The fact of the matter is that companies enlist the services an executive recruiter to find the best candidates available in the marketplace.  If they send recruiters to go find the best, then they certainly expect the best to be represented by a recruiter.

#2—Your candidacy is taken more seriously.

As an extension of #1, representation by a recruiter makes a company take notice.  It signifies that the candidate is a major player in the industry, and in some cases, it secures your place for consideration within the hiring process.  A good recruiter can get you noticed and can “leap frog” you in front of other candidates.

#3—Reduce the risk of mistakes

While you might be tempted to “go it alone,” recruiters do this day in and day out.  They’ve navigated hundreds, if not thousands, of hiring situations, and they’ve seen just about every scenario imaginable.  Their advice and insight is incredibly valuable.

#4—More leverage during negotiations

The negotiation aspect of the hiring process, especially during the offer stage, can be tricky.  This iswhere experience matters the most.  If the recruiter places candidates regularly with this company, they’re going to know how to handle any situation.  Compare it to buying a house.  If you were selling or buying a house, would you want to negotiate directly with the other party or does it help the negotiations to have an experienced real estate agent handling the negotiations for you?

#5—An all-around better deal

Ultimately, this is what you want: a better starting salary, a better benefits package, a better everything, all at one of the best companies in your industry.  In just about every case, working with an executive recruiter and allowing them to be your talent agent will help you to achieve these things . . . and grow your career in the long run.
