The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring high quality medicine and an outstanding client experience in each of the MULTIPLE hospitals that they supervise. They will achieve this goal through recruiting, hiring, coaching and supervising veterinarians and by working with field directors to ensure the presence of outstanding paraprofessional teams.

In addition, Medical Directors partner with field staff to ensure outstanding business practices and a high degree of professionalism in each hospital. Medical Directors are expected to teach medical and surgical skills and to evaluate performance through frequent visits to hospitals. 

Qualifications include a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent foreign degree is required. A minimum of two years leadership experience and three years clinical experience is required, with proven ability to perform all basic surgeries, including use of all standard medical instruments and equipment. At the time of hire, an active veterinary license in good standing and related controlled substance licenses are required for the state in which the majority of the MD’s hospitals exist. For any additional states where the MD has hospitals at the time of hire, or if a new territory is acquired, necessary licenses must be obtained at the next available licensing date. All licenses must remain active for each state in which the Medical Director has hospital responsibility.

Qualifications include 5+ years of experience as a Director or VP level in marketing or sales in the Animal Health Industry. Proven ability to create strategic sales/marketing plans. Experience in large and small company environments. Proven ability to execute and manage sales/marketing plans. Strong written and verbal communication skills including public speaking. Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Experience in social medial, passionate about contributing to the success of veterinarians in the care of animals. Other responsibilities include reviewing performance and establishing development plans for medical directors and overseeing performance reviews and development plans for associate veterinarians.  The Regional Medical Director will provide medical expertise to hospitals and will help develop and manage a regional budget. In addition the incumbent will build relationships with veterinary schools and will participate in veterinary associations.

Minimum qualifications include a DVM/VMD with a minimum of three years of management experience and eight years of clinical experience.  Multi site management experience is highly desirable.
