The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring high quality medicine and an outstanding client experience in each of the MULTIPLE hospitals that they supervise. They will achieve this goal through recruiting, hiring, coaching and supervising veterinarians and by working with field directors to ensure the presence of outstanding paraprofessional teams.

In addition, Medical Directors partner with field staff to ensure outstanding business practices and a high degree of professionalism in each hospital. Medical Directors are expected to teach medical and surgical skills and to evaluate performance through frequent visits to hospitals. 

Qualifications include a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent foreign degree is required. A minimum of two years leadership experience and three years clinical experience is required, with proven ability to perform all basic surgeries, including use of all standard medical instruments and equipment. At the time of hire, an active veterinary license in good standing and related controlled substance licenses are required for the state in which the majority of the MD’s hospitals exist. For any additional states where the MD has hospitals at the time of hire, or if a new territory is acquired, necessary licenses must be obtained at the next available licensing date. All licenses must remain active for each state in which the Medical Director has hospital responsibility.

Focus of this position is on implementation of the strategy and tactics, integrating the commercial and technical aspects of marketing planning and to work closely with sales and Veterinary Services in the execution of the strategy.

The incumbent will develop and recommend final marketing plans and budgets, product positioning and pricing to the marketing manager with input from other managers to maximize profit contribution.  The incumbent will prepare and update product sales forecasts and communicate with production planning to ensure adequate supply without excessive inventory.  Will serve as marketing representative on project teams to develop new products and line extensions to ensure future growth.  Will interact with customers, the sales force, industry opinion leaders and other market influencers to enhance the product line success and keep abreast of changing customer needs and competitive activity. Will work closely with advertising agencies to develop advertising and promotional tactics that support the strategy.  Will assist with sales training and will analyze and evaluate changing market dynamics which include competitive pricing, marketing and position strategies, company mergers, customer attitudes and perceptions, population trends, and emerging diseases and health problems. 

Qualifications include a B.S./B.A. degree with strong technical background or equivalent knowledge in Animal or Biological sciences gained through another science-based degree.  A minimum of three years of previous work experience in the Animal Health industry is critical.  Previous marketing and sales experience is preferred.  Excellent communication and problem solving skills is a must.
